Project Overview

The Electrical Infrastructure Replacement Project at Rio Tinto’s Paraburdoo Mine Site is a program of works to improve the operational reliability and personal safety of the site’s electrical distribution system.

ECM was awarded the contract to replace or refurbish electrical equipment in the existing electrical distribution system and install new low voltage equipment across nine substations. The works were completed over a period eleven shutdowns from January to December 2016

Scope of Work

ECM completed the following works across substations 1, 2, 3, 3A, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11 and the TLO Control Room:

  • Replacement of the existing UPSs and DBs
  • Testing and commissioning of new feeders
  • Modifications/replacement, installation, testing and commissioning of 415V MCC, PLC panel, VSD panel, marshalling panel, UPS, DB, fire system, control systems HVAC, associated power and signal cabling & upgrade of Substation lighting
  • Completion of structural modifications between new and existing structures, cutover, testing and commissioning of new PLC panel, communications panel, UPS, Fire system, HVAC, relocation of equipment, general Electrical installation, associated power, signal and fibre optic cabling
