Project Overview

The Karara Magnetite Project is located 200km east of Geraldton, in the Midwest region of Western Australia.

It is the first major high grade magnetite operation in the area and consists of a substantial, long life, magnetite concentrate operation plus a smaller – scale hematite operation.

Karara has invested more than $1 billion in new common use infrastructure as part of the project’s development, which includes an upgrade to the existing mine process plant and the brownfield integration of a new thickener into existing control systems.

ECM carried out the electrical and instrumentation installation and testing works for the new thickener plant and tailings dam on the existing plant.

Scope of Work

  • Completion of substation installation and earthing.
  • Installation, testing and pre-commissioning of E&I equipment and cabling.
  • Supply and installation of local drive control stations, light fittings, three phase outlets, welding outlets, general purpose outlets and cabling for the lighting and small power systems.
  • Brownfield integration of the new thickener into existing control systems.
