MSP Engineering Pty Ltd (MSP) awarded ECM the electrical, instrumentation and controls construction package for the Lithium Hydroxide Processing Plant 1 in Kwinana, Western Australia. MSP was awarded the Design and Construct Contract for the project by Tianqi Lithium Australia Pty Ltd (TLA) in October 2016.
ECM will mobilise to site, which is located 15 minutes south of ECM’s Corporate Office, in January 2018 with practical completion for ECM’s scope expected by October 2018. This Contract award gives ECM the opportunity to be involved in the new battery minerals boom, which is set to reset the WA mining landscape.
The project will expand Tianqi’s production capacity to meet the growing demand for lithium concentrates, a key material in the manufacture of lithium ion batteries, which are used in electric vehicles, battery storage and consumer electronics. The processing plant is the largest of its kind in the world and will produce the highest quality battery grade lithium hydroxide in the market place.
