Project Overview

Xstrata PLC operates a zinc mine at the McArthur River Mine (MRM) in the Northern Territory. The mine is approximately 120km inland from the Gulf of Carpentaria and 60km from Borroloola. Station A and Station B are located at the mine site and are the sole providers of electrical power to the mine.

Energy Developments Limited (EDL) constructed a new gas inlet and distribution system and a new power station adjacent to the existing power station. The existing station, Station A, was combined with the new station, Station B which was refurbished as a part of the project, to provide a single power station.

EDL awarded the civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation (CSMPEI) construction works to ECM. The power station contract was an integral part of the MRM Phase 3 Expansion Project.
